For those who die in vain.../Para esos que mueren sin razon...

Monday, May 28th, 2007
"Good Riddance, Attention Whore" ...by Cindy Sheehan

I have endured a lot of smear and hatred since Casey was killed and especially since I became the so-called "Face" of the American anti-war movement. Especially since I renounced any tie I have remaining with the Democratic Party, I have been further trashed on such "liberal blogs" as the Democratic Underground. Being called an "attention whore" and being told "good riddance" are some of the more milder rebukes.

I have come to some heartbreaking conclusions this Memorial Day Morning. These are not spur of the moment reflections, but things I have been meditating on for about a year now. The conclusions that I have slowly and very reluctantly come to are very heartbreaking to me.

The first conclusion is that I was the darling of the so-called left as long as I limited my protests to George Bush and the Republican Party. Of course, I was slandered and libeled by the right as a "tool" of the Democratic Party. This label was to marginalize me and my message. How could a woman have an original thought, or be working outside of our "two-party" system?

However, when I started to hold the Democratic Party to the same standards that I held the Republican Party, support for my cause started to erode and the "left" started labeling me with the same slurs that the right used. I guess no one paid attention to me when I said that the issue of peace and people dying for no reason is not a matter of "right or left", but "right and wrong."

I am deemed a radical because I believe that partisan politics should be left to the wayside when hundreds of thousands of people are dying for a war based on lies that is supported by Democrats and Republican alike. It amazes me that people who are sharp on the issues and can zero in like a laser beam on lies, misrepresentations, and political expediency when it comes to one party refuse to recognize it in their own party. Blind party loyalty is dangerous whatever side it occurs on. People of the world look on us Americans as jokes because we allow our political leaders so much murderous latitude and if we don't find alternatives to this corrupt "two" party system our Representative Republic will die and be replaced with what we are rapidly descending into with nary a check or balance: a fascist corporate wasteland. I am demonized because I don't see party affiliation or nationality when I look at a person, I see that person's heart. If someone looks, dresses, acts, talks and votes like a Republican, then why do they deserve support just because he/she calls him/herself a Democrat?

I have also reached the conclusion that if I am doing what I am doing because I am an "attention whore" then I really need to be committed. I have invested everything I have into trying to bring peace with justice to a country that wants neither. If an individual wants both, then normally he/she is not willing to do more than walk in a protest march or sit behind his/her computer criticizing others. I have spent every available cent I got from the money a "grateful" country gave me when they killed my son and every penny that I have received in speaking or book fees since then. I have sacrificed a 29 year marriage and have traveled for extended periods of time away from Casey's brother and sisters and my health has suffered and my hospital bills from last summer (when I almost died) are in collection because I have used all my energy trying to stop this country from slaughtering innocent human beings. I have been called every despicable name that small minds can think of and have had my life threatened many times.

The most devastating conclusion that I reached this morning, however, was that Casey did indeed die for nothing. His precious lifeblood drained out in a country far away from his family who loves him, killed by his own country which is beholden to and run by a war machine that even controls what we think. I have tried ever since he died to make his sacrifice meaningful. Casey died for a country which cares more about who will be the next American Idol than how many people will be killed in the next few months while Democrats and Republicans play politics with human lives. It is so painful to me to know that I bought into this system for so many years and Casey paid the price for that allegiance. I failed my boy and that hurts the most.

I have also tried to work within a peace movement that often puts personal egos above peace and human life. This group won't work with that group; he won't attend an event if she is going to be there; and why does Cindy Sheehan get all the attention anyway? It is hard to work for peace when the very movement that is named after it has so many divisions.

Our brave young men and women in Iraq have been abandoned there indefinitely by their cowardly leaders who move them around like pawns on a chessboard of destruction and the people of Iraq have been doomed to death and fates worse than death by people worried more about elections than people. However, in five, ten, or fifteen years, our troops will come limping home in another abject defeat and ten or twenty years from then, our children's children will be seeing their loved ones die for no reason, because their grandparents also bought into this corrupt system. George Bush will never be impeached because if the Democrats dig too deeply, they may unearth a few skeletons in their own graves and the system will perpetuate itself in perpetuity.

I am going to take whatever I have left and go home. I am going to go home and be a mother to my surviving children and try to regain some of what I have lost. I will try to maintain and nurture some very positive relationships that I have found in the journey that I was forced into when Casey died and try to repair some of the ones that have fallen apart since I began this single-minded crusade to try and change a paradigm that is now, I am afraid, carved in immovable, unbendable and rigidly mendacious marble.

Camp Casey has served its purpose. It's for sale. Anyone want to buy five beautiful acres in Crawford, Texas? I will consider any reasonable offer. I hear George Bush will be moving out soon, too…which makes the property even more valuable.

This is my resignation letter as the "face" of the American anti-war movement. This is not my "Checkers" moment, because I will never give up trying to help people in the world who are harmed by the empire of the good old US of A, but I am finished working in, or outside of this system. This system forcefully resists being helped and eats up the people who try to help it. I am getting out before it totally consumes me or anymore people that I love and the rest of my resources.

Good-bye America…you are not the country that I love and I finally realized no matter how much I sacrifice, I can't make you be that country unless you want it.

It's up to you now.

When it's all said and done, no matter how well you may have dressed, when it's time to 'get it on' the truth will out.

A mature gent will know that and be honest with himself and me. The fact is two old timers still have passion. Their bodies still warm to touch. The sensations those bodies feel are not age related, nor have anything to do with firmness, high breasts, six packs or tight skin. No matter how much we would like to see ourselves as we were 20-30 years ago, time has passed and taken it's toll. But, damn don't we still feel young inside?!

This pic is really a joke, that isn't a joke. I'll share one of myself if you send one of yourself.

What I'd like is a friend. To spend time with, to do things with, and go places with. I'd like to know what makes you happy, how your day went. What your grands said to you that shows how amazing they are.

I'm not promising firework, anything goes, over the moon sex. What I am promising is a chance to be held and hugged and snuggled. And when we have come to that time to make a decision of going further, we'll go. And we will have become partners, who make love.

blk, bbw, div, clean, drug and disease free, some say I'm pretty and they are correct. Please respond to my ad if you are 48+.

I am a married woman seeking a strictly platonic friendship/relationship. I am 31 years old, woman building her own business. . I am not here to find a lover or a quick fling. Since having alot of change in my life recently, I have missed having a good male friend that I can hang out with and not be awkward around because I am married. As woman there are many benefits to having a good male friend. But as with any relationship, there needs to be chemistry, a certain flirty mutual attraction where both of us clearly know where bondaries exist. I believe it is perfectly acceptable to have a close and comfortable relationship with the opposite sex without assuming there should be sex involved. So, I am looking for a man my age or older , of any race, who enjoys life, who is active and healthy or at least has the mindset to become this way as that is the direction that I am headed. physically, spiritually, emotionally... and will motivate me to keep the same lifestyle, and who s hares a few of my many interests. I love art, I am a photographer and an enthusiast of artistic expression, so at the very least you should be receptive to any artform. I seek a muse, so to speak, someone who can bring out my creativity and encourage me in my endeavors. I also enjoy music of almost any kind. I love what sounds good, if it is loud, offensive, or boring I tend not to be interested. I love the ocean and I often go to the ocean at night withmy dog. I woudl love to have someone who enjoys such times too. sometimes talking, sometimes not. I love the study of human nature. I am very easy going and open-minded as well as fairly liberal, just so that you know. I am a spiritual woman by nature , but I'm not very religious and if you can understand this, we'll have no problem. So if this sounds like something that interests you, send me an email, and a picture if you can so that I can place a face to the words. Let me know some about you and well go from here.

Thanks for reading my ad.

Miami Beach...1:28 AM - Domingo...

Who Needs Breasts, Anyway?

Sunday, February 10th, 2002
By Molly Ivins

Having breast cancer is massive amounts of no fun. First they mutilate you; then they poison you; then they burn you. I have been on blind dates better than that.

One of the first things you notice is that people treat you differently when they know you have it. The hushed tone in which they inquire, "How are you?" is unnerving. If I had answered honestly during 90% of the nine months I spent in treatment, I would have said, "If it weren't for being constipated, I'd be fine." In fact, even chemotherapy is not nearly as hard as it once was, although it still made all my hair fall out. My late friend Jocelyn Gray found the ultimate proof that there is no justice: "Not just my hair, but my eyebrows, my eyelashes--every hair on my body has fallen out, except for these goddam little mustaches at the corner of my mouth I have always hated."

Another thing you get as a cancer patient is a lot of football-coach patter. "You can beat this; you can win; you're strong; you're tough; get psyched." I suspect that cancer doesn't give a rat's ass whether you have a positive mental attitude. It just sits in there multiplying away, whether you are admirably stoic or weeping and wailing. The only reason to have a positive mental attitude is that it makes life better. It doesn't cure cancer.

My friend Judy Curtis demanded totally uncritical support from everyone around her. "I smoked and drank through the whole thing," she says. "And I hated the lady from the American Cancer Society." My role model.

The late Alice Trillin wrote some brilliant essays on being a cancer patient, and I found her theory of "the good student" especially helpful. When you are not doing well at cancer--barfing and getting bad blood tests and generally not sailing through the whole thing with grace and panache--you have a tendency to think, Help, I'm flunking cancer, as though it were your fault. Your doctor also tends to look at you as though he is disappointed. Especially if you start to die on him.

You don't get through this without friends. Use them. Call them, especially other women who have been through it. People like to help. They like to be able to do something for you. Let them. You will also get sick of talking about cancer. One way to hold down the solicitous calls is to give your friends a regular update by e-mail, if you have it. If you work, I recommend that you keep right on doing so (unless you hate your job). Most companies are quite good about giving you time off when you need it, and working keeps you from sitting around and worrying.

Losing a part of a breast or all of one or both has, obviously, serious psychological consequences. Your self-image, your sense of yourself as a woman, your sense of your sexual attractiveness are going to be rocked whether or not you have enough sense to realize that tits aren't that important. I am one of those people who are out of touch with their emotions. I tend to treat my emotions like unpleasant relatives--a long-distance call once or twice or year is more than enough. If I got in touch with them, they might come to stay. My friend Mercedes Pena made me get in touch with my emotions just before I had a breast cut off. Just as I suspected, they were awful. "How do you Latinas do this--all the time in touch with your emotions?" I asked her. "That's why we take siestas," she replied.

As a final indignity, I have just flunked breast reconstruction. Bad enough that I went through all that pain for the sake of vanity, but then I got a massive infection and had to have both implants taken out. I'm embarrassed about it, although my chief cancer mentor, Marlyn Schwartz (who went to the Palm for lunch after every chemo session), has forbidden this particular emotion. So now I'm just a happy, flat-chested woman.

Molly Ivins was found to have Stage III inflammatory breast cancer in 1999. She died on January 31, 2007, at age 62.

Hi, I am a 35 yo independent lady who has a great personality and like the popular assumption goes is not sooo pretty/attractive/good looking...etc, etc. With that out of the way I must say that I really don't know how long I will keep this post here, i am doing this because i feel like it, i don't know if it will work or not, i am just taking my chances here. I am looking for a guy who is seriously interested in a friend and that doesn't expect love at first sight or at first phone call/email...etc. I am very independent, I am working on my Master's and I have my own job so I am not looking for anyone to support me. Please don't think I am fooling you by telling you I am not attractive, truly and seriously i am not and i don't want people who are looking for an attractive girl (in the conventional worldly view) to waste their time or mine. So, after the longest introduction ever I must say thanks for reading and please be honest enough to either write or move on.
Ciao!

I don't believe in this but I thought it would be fun to write. The idea is romantic but the reality is that most people that write ads are just looking for sex or are weird. After all, who would actually meet someone from the Internet unless they are weird and lonely, crazy for sex, or even murders. I started by reading the adds written by male seeking woman and I got exactly what I expected. Most where about sex. Some asshole's looking for someone to have an affair with. The only ones interested in an actual relationship are the older gentleman that probably spent their youth doing what the young ones on this site are doing now. Looking for platonic sexual relationships and thus are now alone. Then, I went and read the ladies. Expecting to read what we find commonly in romantic novels. A single, smart, self-sufficient woman looking for love. Someone who wants a sweet, caring, romantic, spontaneous, athletic, family orientated guy. Instead, what I found was woman settling for at minimum someone who isn't abusive, alcoholic, drug dealer or in jail. There are no real men out there. So woman have no choice but to settle. There is a Spanish saying that states it is better to be alone than with bad company. And so instead of writing a personal add about what kind of a man I am looking for, I too must settle but not for what the other woman are settling for, I will settle for not writing a personal add at all.

Just in case it disappears:

With children being slaughtered in Darfur, what difference does it make how big my breasts are, how long my legs are, or how much money you or I make? If there is a man out there who: isn't a crackhead or crack dealer, isn't an alcoholic, doesn't have any kids, doesn't smoke, doesn't beat women, isn't wearing women's underwear as you're reading this ad, isn't a liar, isn't looking for fun behind his wife's back, isn't into being hit, peed on, or tied up while having sex, doesn't want to hit, pee on or tie me up while having sex, likes having sex, CAN have sex, is not in jail, on probation, has a court date pending, isn't a misogynist, racist, classist, elitist, bible boy, or a pompous ass...Contact me!

For those of you challenged in reading comprehension...LTR seekers ONLY! And for the inconsiderate...do me a favor and send a picture please...
